KING CAKE BABIES 2026

FEBRUARY 14, 2026
NEW ORLEANS, LA
FUJIFILM Xe-5

One of the wonderful privileges I get to partake in every year for Mardi Gras is walking with the King Cake Babies dance group during the Krewe of Tucks parade. It’s one of my favorite events to shoot! Not only because the photos usually come out quite stunning, but because it’s an excellent opportunity to practice action photography. Shooting during a moving parade is especially difficult because light conditions can change quite drastically. Focal lengths are always moving in and out as well, and there’s also the added danger of getting hit in the face by a wayward foot from one of the dancers. During the shoot, I did find myself having issues with using the autofocus settings properly on the still-new-to-me XE-5, but was still able to scrounge up a solid 292 high-quality shots good enough for print and sharing. Here’s a small selection of my favorites!
